Canty stars as Jaguars blow out Dacula

It was yet another dominant win for the Jags this past Thursday winning 86-60 over the Dacula Falcons. Cedar moved to 8-1 on the season with its fourth win by a margin of 15 points or more.

Senior forward Quincy Canty led the way with 31 points, shooting 66% from the field and 3-4 on three-point attempts. Scoring 19 in the first half, Canty felt that getting into a rhythm was key to his shooting success.

“The offense is going to get us open shots,” Canty said. “As long as we’re patient, we run the offense all the way through, and everyone goes where they need to go. You can get any shot you want.”

Even when the Jags are struggling offensively, they can rely on the 6’6” Canty to shoot over everybody. Not only did Canty shoot 75% from a three-point range, but the team also shot well making 38 field goals with nine three’s. Canty says that the fundamentals are helping the team get into better shape.

“It’s really important that we practice shooting in practice so that when it comes time to play we can knock those shots down with confidence because we practice those shots consistently,” Canty said.

Sophomore point guard Kashik Brown struggled offensively in the first half shooting a team-low 30%. He understands the role he has to take on and the system of the team.

“I understand my role, my size doesn’t matter, always heart oversize,” said Brown. “Coach Thomas brings up last year and how those guys each had roles on the team and now I understand my role.”

The Jaguar’s next home game will come against Kell (10-2), the team that knocked Cedar out of the playoffs last year.
