Cedar routs Loganville, continues dominance

It was yet another showcase of talent Friday night as the Jags walloped the Loganville Red Devils 69-39. The Jags collected their 20th win on the season and now ranks number four in region 5-A.

While the Jags were heavily favored to win given that they had beaten Loganville earlier in the season 72-49, this game helped the team get back on track after holiday tournaments.

With the lead secured in the second half, this game also featured some future star players to keep an eye on next year when the two leading seniors Quincy Canty and Tyler Johnson depart for college.

Sophomore Kashik Brown led on both sides of the ball with 23 points, six rebounds, and three steals in the first half.

“I like that we communicated better and had fun,” Brown said. ”It’s important to have fun and keep this mojo going throughout the season.”

Brown’s performance drew a lot of praise from Canty, who came up with 21 points, six rebounds, and 2 assists.

“I liked his effort and the fact that us being a defensive team first, he really gave it his all,” Canty said. “He’s been doing everything he needs to do on defense and that really helps us.”

Going forward the Jags need to keep their focus with only four games left in the regular season, including Saturday’s upcoming rematch with Clarke Central. Associate Head Coach Grant Moro highlighted what is necessary for the Jags to sustain their success.

“We have to have a great week of practice, work on our strengths and weaknesses,” said Moro. “The results will take care of themselves, so we’re just gonna focus on ourselves and try to finish strong,” Moro said.
