The annual Classic City Marathon was held the morn The annual Classic City Marathon was held the morning of Saturday, Jan. 25. All runners took their mark at 7:30 a.m. to begin their races. Along the path designated for the runners were water stations and medical tents to ensure safety to all participants. Cedar Shoals Beta and Student Government clubs joined forces to run water station 9, providing hydration to full and half marathon members. Students arrived at their water station at 7 a.m. and stayed for five hours, cheering on runners and handing them refreshments. “I feel like it's a fun and good team building experience for us (Beta Club) while providing us with exciting service hours,” junior Beta Club president Lexie Holiday said. The journalism publication, BluePrints, has spent The journalism publication, BluePrints, has spent the first week back at Cedar Shoals High School decorating and moving into their new room. This room has supplied the staff with new space and rooms for individual offices for the Little Blue Book Literary Magazine, yearbook, magazine and WJAG-TV. “I really loved moving to a new space because it has so much more room for the things we need,” staff writer Gretta Garrett said. “As a freshman it was fun to be able to add something new to the room.” Photos by Lilly Cohen and Sophie Meile.

Chemistry teacher Astrid Tarleton and her student Chemistry teacher Astrid Tarleton and her student created atom Bohr model ornaments for the classroom chemis’tree’ to celebrate the holiday season and end of the semester. A Bohr model is one way to show an atom's protons, neutrons, and electrons on different energy levels. “I got the inspiration to create a chemis’tree’ from my mentor Mary Lynn Zimpher,” Tarleton said. Two Cedar Shoals seniors, Delia McElhannon and Gen Two Cedar Shoals seniors, Delia McElhannon and Genesis Rodriguez, were accepted into Duke University with the QuestBridge scholarship. With Duke’s low acceptance rate of 6.3%, this was an achievement for both students. “I feel really good. I put in a lot of work and effort, and I’m really proud of all my achievements,” McElhannon said. The QuestBridge program matches students to partnering universities. The scholarship allows both students to attend Duke University with tuition and housing covered. McElhannon and Rodriguez were selected out of over 2,600 finalists. “Honestly, I was in shock for a few hours afterwards because I wasn’t expecting that at all,” Rodriguez said.
