Playoff push: Cedar on the bubble of Class AAAA playoffs
With Cedar Shoals’ last game of the season on Thursday night against the North Hall Trojans, the Jags are on the bubble for a spot in the Class AAAA playoffs. Currently tied for fourth with the Cherokee Bluff Bears, the game is a must-win for the Jags. It won’t be an easy game though, as the Trojans are ranked third in the region, at 6-2 overall (4-2 in the region).
The Jags and the Bears are both 4-3 on the season, but Cherokee Bluff holds the tiebreaker, having won the regular season matchup on Sept. 29. The East Forsyth Broncos are right behind at 3-3, but they hold the head-to-head over the Jags.
This means that even a win doesn’t guarantee a playoff spot for the Jags. Cherokee Bluff is likely to move to 4-4 as they take on the undefeated North Oconee Titans (8-0), while East Forsyth looks set to win this week’s matchup against the winless Chestatee War Eagles (0-8). The Broncos have one more game remaining after this week against North Hall, so they could potentially end with any of the following records: 5-3, 3-5, or 4-4.
There is only one scenario for the Jags to make the playoffs; if they beat the North Hall Trojans, and the Bears lose to the North Oconee Titans, they’re in. However, losing puts Cedar out of contention, as they are tied for fourth with Cherokee Bluff, but lose out on the tiebreaker.
The game is at Waters-Wilkins stadium, with kickoff slated for 7:00pm. Senior night festivities will take place before the game, starting at 6:30pm. Tickets are available for $8 on GoFan.
