Class of 2025 Senior Advisory Board members announced

A month into the 2024-25 school year, the class of 2025 Senior Advisory Board (SAB) members have been selected. The role of the SAB is to plan events and activities for the paid members and entire senior class.

“I am very honored that I got selected as Vice President. I think I can make a good change at Cedar,” Vice President Spencer Waldroup said.

The officers are chosen through an application process taking attendance, grades, and extracurricular activities into consideration. The board consists of the president, vice president, head of marketing, head of public relations, and the board members.

President Kaihn Davenport plans to help the class of 2025 connect as one. He says he will be improvising some things but plans to showcase creativity and confidence during his time on the SAB. From coming into high school wearing pandemic masks to now being seniors, he wants his peers to realize how they’ve come a long way.

“I plan to make a lot of great bonds and help class of ‘25 come back together. I want us all to bond as one, and I want to bring a lot of positivity and a lot of activities for us to do,” Davenport said.

SAB Director and Graduation Coach Valencia Thornton wants to focus on life skills with her board members. She would also like to help the board navigate their senior year and give them skills that will help them after high school.

“We want to be more centered on life skills and doing more with all of the seniors pertaining to well being,” Thornton said.

Waldroup plans to make improving student involvement and experience his main goal this year. His main reasons for applying to become an officer for SAB is to make a difference and impact on Cedar. He feels that the average student experience at Cedar Shoals could be enhanced.

“I think nobody else would have really stepped up for it as much. I want to identify key issues as well as set clear goals for the senior class and improve student involvement,” Waldroup said.

The main role of the board members is to plan activities for the senior class. In the past the SAB has planned the senior sunrise, senior picnic and helped coordinate prom.

This year’s board members include Davenport and Waldroup, along with Ni’zeah Carter,, A’Maya Goss, Megan Jackson, Annie Johnson, Abigail Meija-Hernandez, Zykira Starks, Camari Stevenson, Mercy Thang, Zakayli Tyrell, Alyssa Weiszer, and Ericka Wilson.

“They’re the people, they’re their own voice,” Thornton said.
