Elon Musk makes appearance at former president Donald Trump’s rally
Former president Donald Trump held a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Oct. 5, the same site where Trump’s first assassation attempt took place last summer. The Canadian-American businessman Elon Musk made an appearance at the rally, supporting Trump. Musk had endorsed the former president on July 13, the day he was shot, according to Reuters. Democrats want to “take away your freedom of speech, they want to take away your right to bear arms, they want to take away your right to vote, effectively,” Musk, the owner of X and Tesla, said.

Biden-Harris administration recovery efforts of Hurricane Helene in NC
The Biden administration announced in a statement on Oct. 5 from the U.S Department of Transportation that it would be sending $100 million to help the North Carolina Department of Transportation for immediate repairs from Hurricane Helene’s damages including bridges and roads. Additionally, president Biden has ordered 500 active-duty troops into Western North Carolina to aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene on Oct. 6, according to a statement released by the White House.

Hurricane Milton hits Florida
Only a few weeks after Hurricane Helene impacted northern Florida, a second hurricane has hit the central and southern regions of the state. This Hurricane, named Milton, is the 13th named storm in the 2024 season and the second Category 5, with Hurricane Beryl being the first. It is also one of few hurricanes to reach Category 5 twice. Multiple tornadoes formed before, during, and after the impact, and millions of people have lost power across the state. The current death and injury toll is unknown.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry winners announced
Three scientists have been awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry: David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper. The awards were given out for their work on predicting the complex structures of proteins, a feat scientists have been working on for decades. Other Nobel Prizes, such as those in literature and in physics, have also been awarded. More Nobel Prizes will be awarded throughout the week.

Tik-tok sued by 13 states and DC
14 state attorney generals, including New York, California, and the District of Columbia, have separately sued the popular app TikTok. The lawsuits by the states have alleged that the app has been designed to become addictive for children and teens and can and has caused harm to users. TikTok has responded by saying that the claims were misleading and inaccurate.
