Athens-Clarke County record-breaking early votes
Georgia voters concluded early voting on Nov. 1 with record-breaking in high voting turnout rate with over 4 million Georgians early voting, which surpassed half of the state’s registered voters. 4,031,093 voters have already voted early from the total 7,243,168 registered voters in the state of Georgia, making the voting turnout rate 55.6%. Athens-Clarke County has 72,019 active voters and 40,136 have voted early. Athens-Clarke County had a 55.7% turnout rate for early voting, which was higher by 0.1% than the state of Georgia turnout rate for early voting, according to Georgia Secretary of State Election Data Hub.

Home Depot co-founder Bernard Marcus passes away at 95
The American businessman Bernard Marcus passed away on Nov. 4 at the age of 95. Marcus was the cofounder of Home Depot, which made him a billionaire and one of the richest men in Georgia. Marcus and Arthur Blank opened the first two Home Depot stores in 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia. Home Depot has since grown tremendously with more than 2,300 locations in America and nearly 500,000 employees. It is not known what was the cause of death.

Tropical storm Rafael forms in the Caribbean and is expected to become a hurricane.
Tropical storm Rafael, previously known as Tropical Cyclone 18, formed on Sunday. Rafael is located approximately 65 miles southwest of Montego Bay, Jamaica. Rafael is the 17th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, the season ends on Nov. 30. Rafael could possibly become the 11th hurricane on Tuesday evening or Monday. Donald Trump wins Presidential Election
On the early morning of Nov. 6, Republican candidate and former president Donald Trump passed the 270 electoral votes needed in order to secure the presidency, beating out democratic candidate and incumbent vice president Kamala Harris. Along with the Trump victory, laws on abortion, minimum wage, and the legalization of controlled substances were on the ballot in many states, as well as votes for members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Kalki Yalamanchili wins the 2024 General Election for district attorney
Independent candidate Kalki Yalamanchili has officially become the district attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit. Former district attorney Deborah Gonzalez had a total of 18,068 votes while Yalamanchili had a total of 19,466 votes, according to Athens Banner-Herald, making him the district attorney for Clarke and Oconee Counties.
