Donald Trump signs executive orders
President Donald Trump has signed dozens of executive orders within the first two weeks of his inauguration, with over 20 being signed on his first day in office. These orders have rescind many Biden-era policies, led to a harsher enforcement of immigration, and have changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico. Many of these orders have been met with lawsuits and backlash.

Plane and helicopter collide in DC
On the evening of Jan. 29, American Airlines flight 5342 collided with a military helicopter over the Potomac river in Washington D.C. The flight was making its descent towards Ronald Reagan National Airport when the collision occurred. 67 people total were involved in the crash, and all are presumed dead.

Trump administration plans to house thousands of migrants at Guantanamo Bay
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 30 ordering detention camp Guantanamo Bay to prepare to house approximately 30,000 migrants. The order calls for the Department of Defense and Homeland Security to have financial assistance and enough space for the thousands of migrants.

Trump administration to place tariffs on Canada and Mexico
President Donald Trump announced he plans to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada on Feb. 1. Mexico and Canada import various products to the United States including cars, auto parts, and crude oil. Both Mexico and Canada are top trade partners with the United States.

Snow hits South, Gulf Coast
A powerful snowstorm hit the southern United States, impacting thousands of people from Florida to New Orleans. Florida saw a record amount of snow, with nearly 10 inches reported in Milton. New Orleans saw 8 inches of snow, and at least 1 inch fell on Athens, leading to hazardous weather conditions and closing down Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals High Schools.
