Jaguars Take their 8th Straight Loss to Clarke Central

On Friday, September 11th the Jaguars looked for their first victory over Clarke Central in seven years, but they fell short losing 29-0.

The Jaguar defense started strong limiting CCHS to only a field goal on their opening drive which seemed destined for a touchdown, but the small victory was short lived. Jaguar return man Jamichael Baldwin fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, and the Gladiators recovered, scored, and never looked back. .

The Jaguars defense looked much improved compared to earlier games, only allowing 17 points. Special teams errors by the Jaguars led to the other 12 points for Central. Special teams was CSHS’s Achilles heel during the game.

“Special teams is the fastest way to lose or win a game, and our special teams would not play,” said Head Coach Scott Wilkins.

The punt team had three blocked punts which both lead to touchdowns, one off the recovery and one on the ensuing possession. Not only were there punt issues, but there were fatal mishaps on kickoff returns, too.  The Jaguars fumbled the first one of the game and then failed to recover an onside kick by the Gladiators.

The defense was also down a key player with Greg Smith, 12th grade, sidelined with a high ankle sprain sustained against Elbert County High School.

Cedar’s offense failed to score, and each offensive drive ended with a punt or a turnover.

The CSHS team will continue their two-year search for a win Friday night at Waters-Wilkins Stadium against Lanier High School.

“We’re still looking for our first win, that’s our focus,” said Wilkins.
