UGA Awarded by International nonprofit

The University of Georgia was awarded the Paul Simon award by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.  This award recognizes schools for Internationalization in the U.S.  The award was also given to other colleges, like the University of Notre Dame and San Diego State University.

Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl for the second time in the team’s history, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, who were hoping to earn the first three-peat in Super Bowl history, with a score of 40-22.  Six defenders on the Eagles were former players on the Georgia Bulldogs. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was voted the Super Bowl MVP.

RFK Jr. Confirmed as Health Secretary

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been confirmed as the Health and Human Services Secretary of the U.S. by the senate.  His confirmation passed by a narrow 52-48 vote, passed mostly by Republican senators.  RFK has a controversial history of spreading health-related conspiracy theories, and his nomination and confirmation has led to push backs by Democratic lawmakers.

Asteroid has chance to hit earth in 2032, scientists say

NASA is monitoring an Asteroid that has a 2.3% chance of striking the Earth in 2032.  The asteroid, named 2024 YR4, is being monitored by scientists due to the possibility of striking the earth, although there is a possibility that the Moon will block the strike or the asteroid will miss the planet entirely.

Peace talks for Russia-Ukraine war to possibly begin

Peace talks between Russia, Ukraine and the U.S. are speculated to soon begin in order to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.  Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, presidents of the US and Russia respectively, had a conversation over the phone about ending the war. The Kremlin has also stated that Ukraine will be involved in peace talks.
