Luigi Mangione appears in Court
Luigi Mangione appeared in court for a hearing to discuss evidence given in the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Outside of the court building, supporters of Mangione called for his release, some holding plushies of the Nintendo video game character Luigi. A trial date has not been set yet.

Plane crashes upside down in Canada, no deaths
In Toronto, a Delta flight landed upside down after skidding onto a runway in icy conditions. The plane, containing 80 people, skidded and flipped on the runway of Pearson Airport while attempting to make a landing. Although at least 18 were injured, no lives were lost in the crash. An investigation is underway.

Pope hospitalized for pneumonia
Pope Francis has been hospitalized for pneumonia in both lungs. The Pope, who is 88, is being cared for in Gemelli Hospital in Rome and remains in critical condition, although he has shown improvement. His prognosis currently remains unclear.

USAID workers clear out desks as agency undergoes cuts
USAID workers were given 15 minutes on Thursday to clear their desks as the Trump administration fired workers and slashed the agency’s budget. USAID is responsible for sending government aid to countries that have been impacted by major events and helping to improve relations between countries and the U.S.

Measles outbreak in Texas claims first death
The growing measles outbreak in Texas has claimed its first death. The victim, an unvaccinated child, was one of over 100 people affected by the outbreak, and was the first death from measles in over a decade.
