Softball Lady Jags win first home game 17-5
The Cedar Shoals varsity softball team took the win over Meadowcreek High School 17-5 on Sept. 9 after an exciting fourth inning comeback where the Jaguars trailed 5-2.
The game had one important complication: Georgia High School Association umpires did not show up after some miscommunication. Both teams’ head coaches agreed to have a spectator and an assistant coach serve as the umpires.
Jaguar head coach Logan Garrett believes that the team still has some work to do involving aggression and being presented with conflicting plays.
“We have to know when and where to throw the ball. Sometimes players are presented with multiple situations and ways that they can make outs, and we have to have more experience in knowing when is it right to throw it to home or to first or to second,” Garrett said.
She also thinks the team saved what they thought they had lost in the game.
“I’m just really proud of the team for sticking with it, because there was a point when they thought the game was over. I know that the team is really busy, but I appreciate everybody making the effort to stick around and get us another win,” Garrett said.

Sophomore pinch runner SK Hodges says the beginning of the game made it closer than it should have been.
“I think we performed well, especially at the end. I think at the beginning, they were beating us because we weren’t ready to play. We could have started stronger, and it felt a lot more casual just because we didn’t have any official umpires,” Hodges said. I don’t think it altered the game itself, maybe just how other people felt throughout playing.”
Coach Garrett was particularly impressed with the performance of certain players such as freshman outfielder Jewel Daniels.
“I was impressed with Jewel Daniels. She had two big hits that got our rally going, she’s really quick on the bases,” Garrett said.
