Jaguars fall to North Oconee in Region Battle
The Cedar Shoals Jaguars varsity football team fell to North Oconee Titans 48-6 on Sept. 26, bringing the teams record to 0-6.
Junior running back Desmond Moss believes the team lacked focus and faltered in maintaining their confidence before the game.
“A large number of players were not focused. A whole lot of people are scared of the name North Oconee when they really shouldn’t be,“ Moss said.
Moss prepared for the game by reviewing his mistakes in previous games and figuring out how he could fix them. Moss thinks reviewing and re-watching his previous mistakes can prevent him from making them in future games.
“I just looked at last week’s film. I looked at my mistakes and said, ‘I’m not gonna make those same mistakes again, and instead I’m gonna learn from them,’” Moss said.
Defensive back coach Domonique Haynes thinks even though the team did not get the result they hoped for, the players didn’t give up even when the game got tough.
“We came out and played hard for all four quarters but we still came up short. The main thing is, we got better, and that’s all we can ask for,” Haynes said.
Certain players stood out to Haynes such as senior wide receiver and free safety Dorian Thrasher. Thrasher penetrated Oconee’s defense and got multiple stops while playing free safety.
“He played both sides of the ball and scored our only touchdown. He started at free safety then he moved to later in the game receiver,” Haynes said.
Haynes noticed multiple areas the team can improve in and goals the team can work towards.
“We need to get a little more stretch within the substitutions that we’re making. We’re playing hard, but we’re beating ourselves in the game. So going into the next game that is a winnable region game, we’re going to try and to get rid of some weeds and wrens to try to make a push for the playoffs,” Haynes said.
The Jaguars play their homecoming game against East Forsyth on Oct. 3 and are hoping to break their six game losing streak for the season.
