O@TS: Homecoming dance

Cedar Shoals High School celebrated its annual Homecoming night with the theme “Once Upon a Time” on Oct. 4. Organized by Cedar Shoals Student Government Association (SGA), students were able to vote on the Homecoming theme, with options including “Enchanted Forest”, “Art Deco” and “Once Upon a Time”.

During half-time at the homecoming football game vs. East Forsyth members of the 2025-26 homecoming court were recognized: Jewel Daniels and Datkota Lattimore for 9th grade representatives, Riley Freeman and Treylon Johnson for 10th grade representatives, Sa’ida and Reece Rodriguez as 11th grade representatives. Mr. and Ms. JROTC consisted of students senior Kemond Finch and senior Evelyn Huato were also recognized.

For homecoming king and queen, seniors Aniyah Boloton, Shacarah Collins, Kellie Clark, Deston Foote, Karisma Muhammad and Gabrielle Odister were honored. Deston Foote and Gabrielle Odister were named Homecoming King and Queen, respectively.

Cedar Shoals Student Government Association (SGA) public relations officer Derriana Smith said adding more games and giving away stuff during prep rallies was one of the goals while planning for it. “We decided (adding) more games was a must along with more items to give out to get the students hyped,” Smith said.

Prior to Homecoming night, SGA also planned homecoming spirit week. From “Country v. Country Club” on Sept. 30 to “Frat Out” on Oct. 2, students were able to participate in a variety of activities throughout the week, including a prep rally.

“For the prep rally it took a lot of planning from SGA members, students, and faculty. We had to think about the prep rally last year and ways we could improve,” Smith said.

During the prep rally, students were able to participate in musical chairs, tug of wars, and more. Sophomore Caleb Holland was the winner of musical chairs.

“I just (decided to participate) for fun and I just thought it would be fun,” Holland said. “But actually winning was just ecstatic.”
