The Senior Advisory Board (SAB) hosted a field day

The Senior Advisory Board (SAB) hosted a field day for seniors and a special lunch consisting of hamburgers and hotdogs. Activities for students included sack racing, kickball, tug-of-war, tic-tac-toe, filling the cup with a sponge, frisbee, football and soccer.

Senior Mack Vick attended his first and only field day in high school. He really appreciated the students that organized it.

“It felt amazing having a field day for our last year. I was really proud of our Senior Advisory Board for hosting it,” Vick said.

The Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (PBIS

The Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (PBIS) team hosted a field day for juniors and a special lunch from Chick-Fil-A for those that paid junior dues. Unfortunately, their field day was cut short due to the rain and moved to playing board games and card games in the field house.

Junior Kawon Luke thought that the PBIS team planned the event well and they deserve gratitude.

“It was very fun and whoever planned this deserves recognition and honor,” Luke said.

The Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (PBIS) team hosted a field day for freshman and sophmores. Activities for students included sack racing, kickball, tug-of-war, three legged races, tic-tac-toe and other games, Jenga, four in a row and more.

Freshman Frannie Plaksin enjoyed that there were options for everyone to participate in.

“I think it went really well. I like how they had stuff for people who wanted to do sports and people who didn't. I really enjoyed it and I think everyone else did too,” Plaksin said.

The honors day celebration for grades 9-11 was hel

The honors day celebration for grades 9-11 was held this morning in the Turner-Neathery Gymnasium. Due to renovations to the auditorium, the normal location, the ceremony had to be held during school hours in the gymnasium.

Junior Emma Van Cantfort enjoyed receiving multiple awards during the ceremony including the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit and achievement awards in math and social studies.

“I felt happy, it was nice to be recognized for all my hard work,” Van Cantfort said.

Sophomore Caitlin Smith felt the venue change made the ceremony less appealing.

“A lot of parents have work so they couldn’t come,” Smith said. “The auditorium felt more professional than the gym but since it’s being renovated the gym was the best option. Overall, I think it went well and went faster than last time.”

COMBINING FORCES: The Cedar Shoals and Clarke Cent

COMBINING FORCES: The Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central High School Theater departments worked together to produce the play “Mamma Mia.” Auditions were held in the Cedar Larry G. McLure Fine Arts Building on Dec. 9 where students performed a minute-long monologue and two songs to showcase their vocals.

Afterwards, Clarke Central drama teacher Kayla Griffin and Cedar Shoals drama teacher Rosemary Milsap worked together to choose each person's role.

Once decisions were out, the schools began working together on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for 2 or more hours to rehearse, choreograph and construct sets.

After all their hard work, students held their opening performance on April 17 at Clarke Central High School’s Mell Auditorium. The performance was made up of musical numbers produced by ABBA and wholeheartedly captured the emotion portrayed by the original actors of the movie.

The team put together a performance that went beyond what the original movie had in store. With the team's hard work of additional dreams and adaptations of puns. Their performance was one to remember with their unique costumes and strong musical numbers.

The Cedar Shoals varsity girls and boys soccer tea

The Cedar Shoals varsity girls and boys soccer team played against the Greene County Tigers on April 3. The girls mercy ruled the Tigers 10-0 and the boys won 8-0.

Between the games, the Jags held teacher appreciation night where teachers who were deemed “life-changing” to players were honored. Social studies department chair Beth Mendenhall, chosen by senior girls captain Finn McGreevy, emphasized how impactful it was to be recognized for the work she puts into making a difference in her students' lives.

“It is always so nice to have a student, especially a student that you haven’t had for a couple years, say that they enjoyed time in your classroom. It feels really good to feel like you made a difference since teachers work really hard,” Mendenhall said.

Cedar Shoals Model UN and Student Government Assoc

Cedar Shoals Model UN and Student Government Association held the third annual World Culture Day on March 28 in the library during scheduled lunches. Students represented different cultures through a variety of decorations and food.

Junior Gabe Gordon and senior Semuel Pez were proud to present Filipino culture for the second year in a row through decorating a table and handing out samples of Lumpia, a Filipino spring roll, and Puto, a Filipino rice cake dessert.

“Compared to last year I feel like I had more of an idea of what I was doing,” Gordon said. “I enjoyed seeing all my friends come and try the food I prepared.”

The last pep rally of the 24-25 school year was he

The last pep rally of the 24-25 school year was held on March 27. The pep rally was organized by the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team and hosted by senior Kaihn Davenport, sophomore Kaitlyn Paige, senior Marcus Lawrence and junior Jakia Butts.

Students played interactive games, the first being head-shoulders-knees-and-cup where students were paired and instructed to grab the cup. Next up was a soccer dribbling challenge where students competed against faculty in a relay race to dribble around a set of cones. A team of boys and girls basketball players then defeated faculty in a 3-on-3 basketball game with a final score of 10-8.

After the games, spring sports teams took to the court to be recognized for their hard work and persistence. Following the acknowledgement of teams, students were welcomed onto the floor for a massive game of tug-of-war, which concluded seconds after it began. Next came the football throwing challenge, where students attempted to throw a football into a basket. A game of musical chairs concluded the pep rally.

Senior Devion Colbert enjoyed witnessing all the teams being appreciated.

“I liked how they got each spring sport to stand out in the middle of the court so that they (the students) could see the team. When we (baseball) got out there we felt appreciated. It made me feel known, standing in front of the whole school in the gym. Seeing that and being appreciated for all your hard work that you put in, it was really great,” Colbert said.
