The Unity Project: Bracelets For Palestine
The Unity Project, a club at Cedar Shoals High School, has been planning an event to sell bracelets to raise money to donate to children in Palestine who have been affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict. Members began selling bracelets for $2 this semester.
Multiple members have researched organizations they should donate the money from the bracelet sales. Club founder Omnia Mansour says it is necessary that they donate to a trustworthy organization.
“The money is going to the Palestinian Children Relief Fund. They help children in refugee camps by giving them free healthcare,” Mansour said.
Junior Javen Hutchens brought a bracelet at the sale. The main reason he purchased a bracelet was to help people in any way possible.
“I just want to help people in need, or at least show some form of support for people in general,” Hutchens said. “In Palestine, (because of) the killing of people and the mass murder, aid to the children and the mothers is very crucial because of the harm they have been through.”
Mansour has been persistent in raising awareness about the sale by posting on the group’s Instagram and Tiktok accounts to spread the word to people. Mansour thinks that the more money they make the better for the cause they are supporting.
“The main goal of this project is to fundraise as much money (as) possible to provide humanitarian aid to Palestine, specifically to children suffering from the after effects of the genocide,” Mansour said.
The club plans to expand their sales to different places around the Athens community. They have one spot secured, one spot they are still working towards and overall searching for more places to sell.
“We’re doing the Athens Farmers Market and Barberitos hopefully. That’s still in the work’s,” Mansour said.
