Lady Jags overshadow the Flacons
The Cedar Shoals Jaguars varsity girls basketball team faced off against the Flowery Branch Falcons on Feb. 3 for senior night. The Jags dominated, winning the game 42-15. They improved their record to 13-10, 6-4 in the region.
The Lady Jags came into this game with little preparation because of recent snow days and cancellations. Varsity small forward junior Kayla Harris believes that the lack of practice affected the team, but they still found ways to improve.
“We improved with defense, even though we’ve been out of practice and school because of the weather. We improved on defense, shots and putbacks,” Harris said.
Head girls basketball coach TaKesha Wall was impressed with Harris’ performance despite some mistakes in the first quarter.
“I think she did very well. Unfortunately, she did get in foul trouble. In the first quarter she picked up a couple charges, but overall I think she played a great game,” Wall said.
This game was special for the players because of senior night. Varsity small forward and shooting guard Jasiah Wymbs says the crowd boosted motivation.
“It gave us more energy, but it also taught us not to feed into the crowd when they’re yelling and trying to get into our heads. It just helped us work better together and not be so timid and trust ourselves,” Wymbs said.

For Harris, some of the officiating created difficulties.
“We played eight people today, you know, plus the refs, so it was just a little wonky. The other team was not as good as the other teams we’ve played, but the refs helped them out,” Harris said.
Wall was impressed with her seniors in the game: the culmination of their work on the team.
“I’m just proud of my seniors. They always look forward to this game. So it was great to win on senior night and just to have fun,” Wall said.
